Thilanka Hotel in Kandy began in 1978 as a small five-bedroom guesthouse. In the traditional Kandyan hospitality custom, guests were provided with home-cooked meals and treated as family. It evolved through time, becoming a small hotel by 1983 and gradually expanding to the current 92-room complex.

In less than 10 years Thilanka Resort and Spa in Dambulla expanded into a fully fledged hotel, providing a unique living experience in the heart of Sri Lankan agriculture and history. Throughout its nearly 40-year history, the sole goal has been to combine the comforts of a Kandyan home with the luxury and modern amenities of a reputable hotel.
