East Coast

The island's east coast can boast of some of the best beaches in the world. The turquoise blue ocean is a signature attraction which most of these beaches offer together with the golden sand which is smooth and pure like sugar being poured out on to your hand. One can languish lazily on this sand under the bright sand for hours or float in the calm salty waters of the Indian ocean and feel relaxed the whole day without getting bored or if you still feel bored as do most of the adventurers kind then you could try our some invigorating water activities like snorkeling, kayaking, wind sailing or even scuba diving. You could even explore and scale the ocean for Whales and Dolphins during the season in the east coast.

East coast’s long white beaches, great surf and mangrove lagoons has been largely off limits for the tourist during civil unrest. However, with the dawn of peace in these areas since 2009 the locals in these areas are happy to welcome visitors wanting to re-establish their livelihoods through tourism. The season on this coast is between May and September as the rough season during this time is prevalent on the south and west coasts.

The most famous of these beach resorts are Nilaveli, Pasikudah, Kalkudah and Arugam Bay. Trincomalee, the Cultural Triangle, the Hill country and the wild life parks can easily be combined to offer a wide range of holiday interests lest the beach becomes boring after a couple of days.
